Birdsfoot trefoil is pleasing in a pasture through eye appeal, enhanced forage quality, and nitrogen fixation. (2006 Best of Show)

Four cows of this 500-head herd pose with their mouths full after being turned into a fresh strip of stockpiled bermudagrass. Strip-grazing stockpiled bermudagrass can save $20 per animal unit vs. feeding hay. (2005 Best of Show)

White Clover Wonder: If white clover blooms were larger they would be considered an ornamental plant. (2004 Best of Show)

The timber breaks part of the wind for these cows and calves eating hay during an Ozark snowstorm. Cold wind and lactation create a high nutrient demand for cattle in winter. (2003 Best of Show)

AFGC's National Photo Contest is sponsored through the generous support of Ampac Seed.

The purpose of the contest is to recognize, through photography, the multi-faceted uses of forages. Entrants must submit digital photo files (preferred), slides or negatives to AFGC Headquarters. These will be enlarged and displayed at the annual conference. All slides and negatives will then be returned to entrants and AFGC Headquarters will retain the enlarged prints. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best photos.

Credit will be given to AFGC and the photographer when a photo is utilized by a corporation or magazine. If photos in the contest are sold for commercial use by AFGC, then any payments made for the photos will be shared on a 50:50 basis between the photographer and AFGC. Rules of the contest are as follows:

1. Photo must have been taken and submitted by an AFGC member. Photo classes include “Production” (planting, pest management, mechanical harvesting, etc.), “Utilization” (consumption by animals, soil conservation, wildlife, etc.), “Research”, “People”, and “Other”. Two submissions per photo class are allowed.

2. Each color print digital photo file, negative or slide must be sent with $10 for each entry to AFGC headquarters. Please send a check and not cash. The fee is assessed to cover charges associated with enlarging the negative or slide and its subsequent display at the Annual Conference. The check should be made payable to AFGC.
