Forage Spokesperson Competition

The Forage Spokesperson Contest is one of the most popular and informative sessions at the annual AFGC conference. Individual farmers are nominated by state affiliate councils to present at the national conference. Each producer is asked to develop a 15-minute presentation which gives an overview of their farming operation. Emphasis is typically placed upon how forage management contributes to the overall farm objectives and marketing. An additional five minutes are then reserved for questions from judges and the audience. A diverse panel of judges comprised of producers, industry representatives and government agency employees score the producers on criteria including innovativeness, practical application of sound principles, communication skill and enthusiasm. We request that no video be used in the presentation as this impedes our ability to record the presentation.

2019 AFGC Forage Spokesperson Sponsor:

2019 Forage Spokesperson Competition Winners:
1st Place -- Bryan Eash, Indiana
2nd Place -- Anne Bays, Kentucky
3rd Place -- Tim Kelley, North Carolina

Bryan is an owner/operator of Country Meadows Farm and is the sixth generation to return to the dairy making 2019 the 140th year the family has farmed this location in Pleasant Lake, IN. The farm is primarily a grazing dairy, but it also offers pastured chickens, eggs and (new this year) pork, as well as grass fed beef. High quality forages are the driving force behind everything they do. As forage producers, they know it costs the same to plant, harvest, and store a crop regardless of quality or yield. However, having a high quality, high yielding forage results in a crop that returns many times over that of a lesser quality or yielding crop. Bryan was a farm host for a charter bus tour that was organized by the Indiana Forage Council and he has attended the annual meeting of the Indiana Forage Council when it is held in his area of the state.
